A Unique Park Shall Appear at the Feet of the Statue of Liberty |
The unique stone jungles of New York attract inconceivable crowds of tourists. There is so much information written about the main place of interest of the city of Liberty, that each self-respecting traveler deems it his duty to visit this city of the American dream at least once in his life. Although the New York authorities support the tourist flow in every way possible, they do not forget about the citizens.
What do citizens of megalopolises lack so much? Certainly, fresh air! But there is so little space in cities… In this connection, the New York authorities decided to make a present to their citizens and develop a new tourist route as well. The graceful decision was lying underfoot, in a literal sense of the word. The long-suffering Governors Island is situated not far from the Statue of Liberty. We call it long-suffering, since for almost 10 years nobody had had the idea of how to handle it. Just imagine the investment potential of the island that has a splendid view of the New York City! However, the authorities decided to create the world’s most modern city park here, rather than to encumber the island with elite immovables. Thus, soon New York shall have one more must-visit place.
The tender for constructing the park was won by the Dutch architecture company “West 8”. Its project of the island’s transformation is impressing indeed. The Dutch appeared in the Governors Island as far back as in VII-th century. No wonder that there still are a lot of historical buildings on the island; however, they are concentrated only in one part of the island. The remaining space shall be occupied by a wonderful park. The park shall attract both people who simply want to have a rest in the open air and ecological tourists with firm ideological principles. The thing is that the island shall have hand-made surroundings resembling the landscape of the untouched nature. A group of designers from different countries of the world guided by “West 8” has placed artificial hills, lakes and swamps on a rather small area. You shall be able to ride free of charge bicycles of the unique construction here. The carriage of these two-wheeled bicycles is made of wood.
The project authors are just to call the future park a breakthrough in the field of arranging city parks. Following the intricate curving paths you shall ascend hills and then find yourself over marshlands... On the whole, you shall enjoy a rest close to almost wild nature.
Approximately 400 million dollars shall be invested in the project. If you stay in New York in 2012, you are obliged to visit the Governors Island. The Dutch promise to fully realize their idea by that time. |
