Paris authorities discovered how to use numerous natural fir trees, thrown out by the citizens after the New Year holidays: they shall be used as compost in local parks. The action “Let your fir tree live its second life”, held at the initiative of the Paris Mayor’s Office, shall last till 20 January. 65 points of reception of fir trees have been opened in the French capital. More than four thousand New Year trees have been accumulated so far.

Till present, the significant part of fir trees was thrown in the streets and after that brought to special places to be burnt. Now, fir trees shall be turned into mulch (a composition that protects soil from evaporation and freezing), meant for soil processing in Parisian parks and thus protecting trees and bushes. Fir trees meant for processing should not be covered with artificial paint.

In future Parisian authorities intend to apply this method in all 450 city parks and gardens.
