The Most Problematic Airports |
Forbes magazine has published the rating of international airports, which bring most trouble to the passengers. The black list consists not only of the third world countries’ airports, but also of transport hubs of many world capitals. The main selection criterion has become the level of flight delay according to the data from the year 2007 for transport hubs, the acceptance rate of which is at least 10 million people a year.
The airport of each country is the first step from which the foreign guests become acquainted with the new state. The experts have analyzed the image and level of service of the leading planet’s transport hubs. The selection criterion has become the level of airport’s deviation schedule of incoming and outgoing flights.
“The most accurate world’s airports are situated in South Korea and in the Land of the rising sun”.
The first one in the top five of the worst airports, where the flights are delayed most often, has become the international airport of Brasilia (Brasilia International), whose acceptance rate for the last year constituted 10 million people.
It turned out that in the year 2007, less than 27% of the flights from this airport were performed in time. The average waiting time for taking off in this airport is 52 minutes.
The international airport of Beijing (Beijing Capital International) is the second in this list. In the year 2007 a little more than 33% of the flights there has taken off in time. In the year 2006 its acceptance rate was 49 million people.
Brazil has got also the third place in the black list. It was portioned among the airports of San Paulo – Sao Paulo Guarulhos International and Congonhas International. In the year 2007, only 41% of flights have left in time from the first airport, and only 43% of flights from the second one.

However, the researchers didn’t stop at this and have composed one more top five list of transport hubs, where the least flights are arriving in time.
The first place in the rating was given to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Mumbai International airport. During the last year slightly more than 44% of the flights have arrived here in time, and the average time of delay was 45 minutes.
The second in the list is Delhi Indira Gandhi International airport, where in the year 2007 a little more than 45% of all the flights have arrived in time.
As told by the magazine, Indian authorities have several times apologized to the International Civil Aviation Organization, admitting that the efforts on upgrading the country’s leading transport hubs fall behind its economic growth rates.
The third place was given to Sao Paulo Congonhas, on the landing runway of which only 54% of all the flights were in time in the year 2007, for other flights the delay was at least 45 minutes.
The fourth in the list is New York La Guardia international airport, where in the year 2007 less than 58% of flights arrived in time, and the average time of waiting was more than an hour.
Referring to the US government consultant on interurban and international transportations Robert Pool, the situation with flights delay in USA has become worse in many country’s airports mainly due to the fact that many companies have decided to change the aircraft park to small airliners. For example, in one of the big US airlines, JFK, the number of planes with the carrying capacity of less than 100 passengers, for the last five years has increased by 128%.
The top five list ends with Newark International airport, where in the year 2007, a little bit more than 58% flights have arrived in time.
The most accurate world airports are in South Korea and in the Land of the rising sun. Thus, in the Gimpo International Airport in Seoul the number of flights arrived in time is about 95%. This index is only 1% less in the biggest airport of South Korea, Jeju International.
Japan has ceded Korea in the area of the most accurate arrivals. In the Osaka Itami International airport only 8% of the flights didn’t arrive in time. However, according to the number of takings off, the Japanese airports have the 6 leading positions in the top ten of the most accurate transport hubs around the world.
The most complicated for taking off and landing among the world’s airports are considered to be Lhasa and Bangda, situated in Tibet. The first one is situated 3500 meters above the sea level, and the second one – 4300 meters. Both are surrounded by mountains.
The airport in Bangda is the most high-mountain civil airport in the world. Here was also built the longest landing runway (5500 meters).
It is hard to land in the Norwegian airport Longyear situated at the Svalbard archipelago, because of constantly and sweepingly changing meteorological conditions, low cloud cover, wind and solid rock massif.
Also, because of the strong side winds, the international airport Heathrow in London has also entered the list of the most complicated airports in the world. |
