The French company “Alstorm” has presented its new AGV train that can accelerate up to 360 kilometers per hour. From the point of view of innovative technical solutions and importance for the railway industry, AGV is compared with the famous airbus A380.

AGV is destined to cover one thousand kilometer distance in three hours within the real operation on the line. Patrick Cron, Chief Executive Officer of “Alstrom”, called this achievement “a new stage of competition with air companies”.

AGV is not divided into a locomotive pulling the whole stock and passenger carriages without engines. Instead, electric engines of AGV are evenly distributed along the train. They are placed in wheeled trolleys under each carriage, neighboring AGV carriages leaning on common trolleys placed between them.

This allowed engineers to extend the room meant for passengers by 20%. In addition to that, AGV is lighter in weight and consumes 30% less energy than TGV that became a common train in France. Depending on the inside design of carriages and the general length of the stock, AGV may carry from 250 to 650 passengers. During service tests in April 2007, AGV engines and transmission parts sped up a TGV train up to 574 kilometers per hour, usual TGV speed being only 320 kilometers per hour.

The Italian railway company “Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori” has already ordered 25 AGV trains. They shall be introduced into Italian lines in 2011.
