Tourism has occupied the third place in Argentina’s economy according to the last year’s results. The Secretary of Tourism Enrique Meyer has recently stated that in 2007 the tourism industry brought more than 4 billion dollars to the country’s economy.
Tourism sector has surpassed even the main branches of Argentina’s industry and agriculture.
“According to the last year’s results, the number of foreign tourists in Argentina increased by 11% as compared to the year of 2006, which brought Argentina to the second place in the region after Chile (12%) and even allowed the country to surpass the USA (10%)”, said Meyer.
According to the official data, last year Argentina was visited by 4 542 996 foreign tourists who spent 918 dollars at the average. Argentina is primarily visited by tourists from Chile, Brazil, the USA and Spain. European tourists spend more money here – 1 647 dollars at the average. Meyer claimed that local authorities hoped to maintain and even exceed the level of 2007.
Argentina has got almost everything a demanding traveler might request: kilometer long beaches and world’s highest mountain tops, endless steppes and beautiful waterfalls, mountain ski resorts and numerous monuments of colonial architecture, dense forests and picturesque villages of cattle farmers.
Although Argentina is rather European unlike its neighbors, its unspeakable and attractive nature, as well as unimaginable mixture of cultures makes this country extremely attractive for tourists. |
