The British Mark Boyle will go on the most preposterous trips in the world. This eccentric man is ready to perform his unusual fit without any financial expenses from his side. The extreme tourist, having nothing to call own, reckons only on the sympathy of the people whom he will meet on his way and who will give him a shelter, food and hearty hospitability.
28-year old traveler Mark Boyle, in times past being a businessman, the native of Bristol, in the west of England, has bethought a preposterous journey, during which he will not have recourse to the trains, planes, motor ships and cars. The Englishman is ready to accomplish a passage of 14 500 kilometers on foot, which will start from his native Bristol and end in the seaport town of Porbandar in the west of India.
Covering from 25 to 75 kilometers a day, Mark will pass on Shank's mare through France, Italy, Eastern Europe, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan, and he hopes that after already two and a half years he will attain his goal.
The main attributes of Mark’s outfit will become a compass, a good knife, a spoon and a medicine box. No bank cards, checks and bank accounts, absolutely no cash!
As told by the tourist himself, in his interview for BBC radio: “I will not touch any money during my entire journey. Starting from this day I’m opening a blank page of my life.”
The traveler interprets his trip like a pilgrimage, which bears a philosophical meaning, promulgating the old times, when people came to the rescue absolutely selflessly, and the doors of their houses were never closed. “My mother and father always remember with pride the times when in Ireland people helped each other in gathering crops, and in other occupations, not demanding to pay for it” – he told, “But now, my parents repent, that even the neighbors do not know each other and all the doors are always closed. My journey will prove that the society has the chance to return to the epoch, when all the people were much kinder, more sociable and humane.” – added Mark Boyle, who is more uptight for the hospitability in Europe, than in Asia.
However, he honestly believes that his journey, his deed, will not leave the people untouched. |
