A tourist-hooligan was washing a glacier during half a day |
A German tourist had to wash the glacier of Franz Joseph. He was punished in this way because he committed a barbarous act: he drew paintings on the surface of the glacier and the nearby rocks with a spray can of paint.
The conscientious British tourists took a picture of Jean Philip Scharber from Munich, 28 years of age, at that moment when he was painting the glacier. The photos were immediately sent to the office of the Department of Nature Conservation. Its members with the help of the police managed to arrest the hooligan when he was getting on a bus in order to leave the place of "crime". After that the authorities forced the luckless painter to wash the glacier and rocks.
The glacier of Franz Joseph is situated in the South Alps of New Zealand and is very popular among tourists. Scharber was washing the glacier during one and half day. While he was doing it, the tourists, who came to watch these natural sights, were making fun of him. The tourist avoided the accusation of the premeditated loss-making because the Department of Nature Conservation was satisfied with the accomplished work. |
