The regulative institutions of the European Union have approved the usage of mobile phones in the European flights.
In the publication of the European Committee on Monday, is stated that the new rules are establishing the general European standard, that supposes the possibility of the safe usage of the personal mobile phones by the passengers during the flight.
The European Union directive that will come into force on Monday - creates the conditions for the airlines that will allow them to offer telecommunication services onboard already in this year.
The license for such services will be issued by the country government where the airline has been established and it will have force in the whole European Union.
The service will not be available during the takeoff and landing of the plane in order not to interfere with the functioning of the ground telecommunication equipment and while flying through the turbulent zones.
As a comment to the EU decision, the European Telecommunications Commissioner Vivien Redding has asked the operators of the mobile networks to set up reasonable tariffs for the calls from aboard of the plane and the airlines - to ask the passengers to restrain from excessive usage of the mobile phones.
"This can be a new and very interesting offer for those passengers that need to be available no matter where they are", said Redding.
"However, if the consumers will receive astonishing phone bills, the service will be of less demand", she warned.
Several airlines, among those Air France, have already began the testing of the mobile services on some of the European flights. Later their example will follow the British Midland Airways, Portuguese TAP and low-budget Irish Ryanair. |
