Travel remains one of the most popular means of entertainment. |
Only 50 years ago only 20 millions of people have risked to have a rest abroad. In 2007, according to the World Tourists Organization, the pilgrim army in the world has reached almost 900 millions. The billion was not reached because of the fuel prices and economical problems in USA.
Only in the last two years, the amount of the travelers in the world has been increased by 100 million, tells WTO in the "Barometer of the World Tourism" report. In 2007 the most wanted was Europe, where more than the half of all the holiday-makers has traveled (by 19 million more than in the recent year). The main increase was supplied by the Turkey, Greece, Portugal, Italy and Switzerland.
Another half of the travelers goes to more exotic continents. In the last year the leader in the growth of the tourist interest has been the Middle East, that has been visited by 46 millions of people. It is followed by the Asian-Pacific region with the growth of 10,2%. The amount of people that has traveled to the North America has been increased by 6 million, and by 3 million - to the African countries. The WTO experts note that the developed countries remain the centers of the tourism, but the third world offers more hospitality to the guests and will probably move a little the old Europe from the market.
What about the perspectives of the tourism in general - there is no need to worry. The interest of the people to the near and far neighbors, the wish to understand another culture, change the scenery, broaden the knowledge or simply to get bones warm - will never end. And therefore, the tourism will remain one of the most popular means of leisure. But, as the WTO warns, in spite of the high market potential, in 2008 the growth tempo can be a little slower. Firstly because of the economical situation in the USA and secondly because of the high prices for the energy resources. The airfares that get more and more expensive make many people stay at home. |
