Heathrow passengers will have to get fingerprinted. |
Starting from the 27-th of March all the passengers of the internal flights of the greatest English airport - Heathrow, located in London, will have to give their fingerprints. The biometric expertise will happen for two times - at the registration and before the boarding.
The new security measures are aimed against the criminal elements and illegal immigrants, who, as the administration of the airport thinks, will not be able to travel if such checks will exist in the airports. According to the BAA - the Heatrow operator company, the criminal elements can penetrate into the country without this check, with the use of the boarding pass, bought by the other passenger. After that the criminals can arrive to any of the British airports without passport control.
Answering the accusations in the collection of the personal private data, the authors of the novelty underscore that the fingerprints of the passengers will be kept in the airport database not longer that for 24 hours and will not be given to police or any other third-party organizations.
The fingerprinting will occur also in the nearest times in Gatwick - the second largest British airport. It is supposed that such security measures will be introduced in all the airports of the country.
The first experimental biometric scanning system has appeared in Heathrow already in 2006 - it has been installed in the third terminal of the airport. The scanning has been voluntary and as it was told - the passengers that have used it - were getting to the flights "much quicker than usual". |
