The subway of the Danish capital has been named the best in the world at the international Metro Rail Conference.
Among the main reasons for the choice the experts from New-York, Tokyo, London and other cities with highly-developed underground railway systems have named stability, high appraisal level of the passengers, high safety level and speed with which the new branch to the airport has been opened.
Probably these factors have dominated above that fact that the subway in Copenhagen exists only since five years, in contradiction with the other highly-developed subways as in Singapore, London and Madrid.
According to the latest passenger satisfaction inquiry, 98% of the passengers are pleased or very pleased with the services offered by the Copenhagen subway. These indicators are the highest for all the time of existence of this subway.
The public transport network of Copenhagen consists of the subway (Metro), city tram (S-tag) and buses. The fare system that is united for all the means of transport is based on the division of the city into zones. In the buses you have to pay to the driver, in the subway you have to buy a ticket at the counter and stamp it afterwards in the yellow device at the platform.
The Danish capital has joined the cities having subways in 2002. The first line of the Copenhagen subway with the length of more than 20 kilometers has been opened by the Danish Queen Margrete II.
The construction has been financed by the funds, raised from the sales of the land, supposed for building of the living houses, shops, offices and administrative buildings in the newly developing territories of the "green area" of the city.
After the end of the construction of the circular subway line that is planned for 2018, along with the usage of the already present advantages of the subway lines, the inhabitants of Copenhagen and the guests of the Danish capital, will obtain an effective and stable transport system, connecting districts of the city and offering a possibility of free movement in spite of all weather conditions and state of the traffic. |
