According to the statistics of the airlines, only 1% of the luggage is getting lost. But does it make it easier for you, if exactly your luggage gets into this percent? So, if you don't want toe lose all your necessary things in your holiday, it is better to make sure and check everything one more time.

1. Don't be in a hurry during the luggage check-in. Make sure that the luggage bill is good attached to your case. The airline collaboratives stick these to the both handles together - that is the reason why they are getting torn off.

2. Make sure that the airline tag, attached to the suitcase has the same destination that is stated in your ticket. This will prevent your luggage from the early unload during the transit flights and connecting flights. If you do not know the three-letter code of your destination airport - ask the agent that sold you the ticket.

3. Make sure you have received the baggage bills with the UPC bar-code. If you have an electronic ticket, the bill can be attached to the reservation confirmation received by fax. Many passengers lose these papers along with the luggage bills.

4. Leave information about you in a special transparent window on the case (if you have such one) - a visit card, where your name, surname and telephone are stated. Or put the information about you inside the bag - with the indication of your route. This could help the airline to make the decision - to send the luggage to the destination or to your home address.

5. Check all the buckles on the luggage. Don't pack the bags too tight - as they can tear apart during the transportation from the terminal to the plane.

6. To prevent the other passengers from grabbing your items, attach a colored band to the handle or wrap a colored elastic belt around the bag.

7. Don't check in valuable items. Documents, cash and jewelry is to be kept personally. Remember, that for the lost baggage, the airlines pay a relatively tiny compensation - $20 for one kilo of the luggage weight, independently from it's cost. If you cannot live without valuable items during your trip - make sure your insurance that you've bought in addition to the standard insurance limit of the airline will cover these costs.

8. If you did not find your luggage after the arrival - do not leave the airport till you have arranged all the papers.

9. The application about the lost baggage should be filled-out at the Lost & Found desk. After that the airport employee can try to search for your bag using the world lost baggage search computer system. Be advised: your luggage should get a special search number.

10. Keep your luggage bills till the moment you have received the luggage and have checked all the contents. Most of the items can be found during 5-7 days and the maximum search time is 21 days. According to the statistics, 99% of the lost things are found again.
