The Japanese company Fujitaka has created a cigarette vending machine that is able automatically to determine the age of the smoker and takes the decision to sell the cigarettes or not.

The new device analyses the presence of wrinkles on the face and after that comes to a conclusion if the current buyer is older than 20. Exactly this age is eligible to buy cigarettes in Japan.

The representatives of the Fujitaka company mention that the system stores the data acquired during the analysis of 100 thousands of various faces. Besides, during the testing of the system it has been revealed that it determines the human age pretty exact in 90% of the cases.

The developers also tell that if among those 10% that were refused in the sales of cigarettes, there was a person that is older than 20, he simply has to insert his identification card into the machine that confirms his age and he will get the desired product.

The specialists suppose that this novelty will solve the illegal sales of cigarettes to those who lends the ID-cards from friends to buy cigarettes.

According to the information of the health care Ministry of Japan, in 2004 13% of young men and 4% of young women in the age of 17-18 have daily smoked at least one cigarette.
