Muslim scientists and clergy from various countries have proposed to replace the Greenwich time with the Mecca time. The supporters of this idea affirm that Mecca, located in Saudi Arabia is the center of the Earth.

This proposal has been announced at the scientific conference in Qatar with the name "Mecca as the center of the world: theory and practice". One of the participants has claimed that Britain has thrusted the Greenwich meridian to the whole world when it was a colonial empire and now it is time to change it.

As the influential theologian and clergyman - sheikh Jusef Kardaui mentions, "the modern science has at last delivered the prove that Mecca is the center of the world", reminding that all the muslim of the world face this point during the prayer.

A model of special watch has been presented at the conference, engineered by a muslim from France that helps to determine the direction to Mecca in any place of the planet.

The Qatar forum is a manifestation of a popular tendency in many muslim countries - to search the clue to the scientific secrets in the text of Koran. The adherents of this tendency affirm that the scientists should carefully study the holy muslim book to reveal the secrets of the surrounding world. But the critics if this school tell that such approach makes no difference between the spiritual truth that does not change with the course of time and the empiric knowledge, that depends on the state of the science in each exact period of time.
