The place of eternal summer and reggae music |
Kingston, Jamaica
Jamaica means "the land of brooks" in the Indian language. The island is buried in verdure of tropical woods, amazes by the abundance of the most beautiful cascade waterfalls. The climate of the island is humid tropical.
Kingston, the capital of Jamaica is a fine, the biggest English-speaking city of Caribbean Islands. In 1963 Kingston was founded by refugees from Port Royal, destroyed by an earthquake. By 1716 it had become the main trade centre of Jamaica.
As a whole and particularly, it is worth to visit this city at least because of the Bob Marley Museum. It is worth to visit and other remarkable places, among which are the following: the National Gallery of Jamaica, the ruins of Port Royal and Devon House - a private residence of the first black millionaire of the island.
The city centre is formed by two parts - a historical business part of the city and a new city, in which there is the most visited place - the Museum of Bob Marley, built as its former residence. Some other reggae stars - Buju Banton, Sean Paul, Bounty Killer and Beenie Man also came from here.
In the twentieth century Jamaica became famous for reggae, rastamanity and the Bob Marley. The concerts of reggae, music of love and revolution, are constantly held here. There are magnificent discos, beaches and cinnamon girls-mulattoes on the island.
Now, when each fiftieth person on the Earth is rastaman, Jamaica has become their Mecca, and the house-museum of Bob Marley in Kingston turns into the temple at the anniversary of his death.
