The beach holiday is usually associated with sunbathing on the warm sand and is not associated with death in any way. However, here is the annual list of the most dangerous world beaches.
Among the dangers that await you at the beaches - are the powerful currents, venomous jellyfishes and the most dangerous - sharks. "Actually, people encountering sharks are more often winning the lucky ticket and remain untouched. There were only 112 cases of shark bites registered around the world in 2007",- tells Stephen Ledermann from the Coastal Research Center in Miami.

1. New Smyrna beach, Florida. Last year the tourists have encountered the sharks more than a hundred times, but luckily only one of these contacts has lead to fatality and 17 people were bitten.

2. Hacks Point beach, Kent district, Maryland and the Beachwood West beach in New Jersey are among the most polluted beaches. Both coastal zones do not comply with the ecological standards of USA since 2006.

3. Northern Australia. The whole coast of the Northern Australia is full of Chironex fleckeri - also known as Sea Wasp or Box jellyfish. This mortally dangerous jellyfish has one of the most strong animal venoms that are known to the humanity. It's scorch can cause human death during several minutes due to the respiration, heart rhythm problems and the decrease of the arterial blood pressure. 60 people have died from it's venom during the last 100 years. Though, the lethal outcomes are quite rare, but every year about 40 people get into the hospitals of the Northern Territory in a seriously bad condition. Last year at the northern coast a 6 years old boy died after an encounter with the Box jellyfish.

4. Florida beaches are dangerous because of the frequent lightning. 71 people died during the period from 1997 till 2006 because of the lightning strikes. At such popular beaches of the state as New Smyrna and Clearwater there are often evacuations of people with the following long-lasting closure of the territories.

5. The Florida beaches are also at the top of the list with most frequent water accidents. In 2006 there were 633 accidents of various vessels, 68 of which have ended with deaths.

6. The Brevard district beaches in Florida are also noted as the beaches with powerful currents. In 2007, being unable to master the currents 10 people died here.
