Quebec will celebrate the 400-th anniversary in a big way

On the 3-d of July the Canadian city of Quebec will begin the celebration of the 400-th anniversary. In 1608 the French traveler Samuel de Champlain has founded a fur market at the bank of the St. Lawrence river. Since that time Quebec has turned into one of the most important cities of North America. During the celebration days the citizens and guests will attend multiple exhibitions, take part in shows and festivals. There will be also fireworks show of course that will start in the midnight on the 3-d of July.

One of the largest anniversary events is the Image Mill project. From the 20-th of June till the 24-th of August the photos of Quebec made in various years will be demonstrated in the nights on a huge screen in the Old Port district. According to the idea of the organizers of the show, this event will get into the Guinness world records book as the largest multimedia project ever.

Also in the night of the 15-th August in the Beauport bay there will be a fire, water and acrobatic show. On the 3-th, 4-th and 5-th of July a historical musical about the first years of Quebec existence will take place before the parliament building. In the Wendake district, where the tribe of Hurons still lives, a dramatical "Kuigwe: The Great Meeting" piece will be shown from the 18-th of July till the 7-th of September. The name of the city comes from the Indian word that is translated as "narrow passage or strait".

On the 22-nd of August in the Plains of Abharam park that can welcome 100 thousands guests, there will be a free gala-concert and the Canadian superstar Celine Dion is announced to be the part of the lineup. And the musical Summer Festival has the Linkin Park as the headliner. In the Quebec museum of culture the Gold in the Americas exhibitions and Urbanopolis will take place, as well as the "The Visionaries Garden" installation. In the National Arts Gallery the Louvre is a honored guest this summer: about 270 of masterpieces are brought from Paris. In the Quebec opera under the coordination of Placido Domingo the Operalia festival will take place. In the Capitole theater the "Les Miserables" musical will be presented. On the 3-nd of July the "Infiniment Quebec" movie will be presented that has been created especially for the anniversary. On the 3-d of July there will be a concert with the Quebec Symphonic Orchestra will perform the soundtrack from this movies. And on the 15-th of July the mass karaoke is planned: on the squares of the city there will be screens installed with simultaneous broadcasting of the texts of the popular songs.

For those who will not manage to enjoy the summer events, on the 17-th, 18-th and 19-th of October there will be another anniversary show "Le Cirque du Soleil". The majestic monuments of the past will be open for visits. The fortifications around Quebec that has been edified in the XVIII-XIX centuries are now a part of the world UNESCO heritage. The cityscapes also include the Frontenac castle that has been built in 1620 not far away from the bastion and became a hotel in 1893. Now the luxury Chateau Frontenac hotel is a part of the Fairmont hotel network.
