Two Berlin citizens have aroused vivid debates in the German society after they opened the "Stasi"-bar, where the guests can drink beer, surrounded by the listening devices, bugs, and other devices that have been located some time ago in the headquarters of the secret police department of the Eastern Germany that has terrified half of the Europe during the Cold War.

The owners of the bar - the 60-years old Willy Gau and 53-years old Wolfgang Schmelz admit that they actually wanted that their small establishment produces some social vibrations.

But the association that unites the victims of the well-known Stasi, has severely criticized this idea, calling it tactless. The owners tell that they have used this name not only satirically, but also serious, giving an interview before the entrance of their bar "Die Firma" with a huge Stasi logo.

Inside you can see a mannequin, dressed into the clothes of a police office of the Eastern Germany that holds a truncheon and handcuffs. Opposite to this figure there is a poster with the text: "Welcome to the capital of the German Democratic Republic".

The owners of the bar offer beer and traditional east-German dishes near an old typewriter and a trashcan with the letters "E.H. - 1912-1994" - this is a hint of the former chief of the GDR - Erik Honneker. The visitors can ask for the Stasi informant rank and will get discounts for that.

The owners say that they respect the victims and do not want to ignore them, but they think that it is already time to have a look at this topic from the new point of view - the Germany's past - after 20 years.

The department of the homeland security of the Eastern Germany - Stasi has been created in 1950 and has been considered the most cruel police organization in the world.

They have controlled every aspect of the citizen's life, applied tortures, intimidation and have used a whole network of the informants to catch the political dissidents.

According to the head of the government Stasi archives committee, the new establishment can't easily be closed, basing only upon the supposed tactless of the owners.

Most of the people that know about the inhumane Stasi methods won't drink beer in this pub - they think that this topic is too serious for jokes. There are still people that are frightened only with a single thought about Stasi and they are tortured with insomnia and psychic diseases. At the time of the collapse of the Eastern Germany the Stasi had about 91 thousand of officers and a huge network of informers. After the fall of the Berlin Wall in November of the 1989, the demonstrants have broken in into the Stasi headquarters in the Normanstrasse in the Eastern Berlin, where now the Gau and Schmelz have opened their bar.
