A Miserable Boston Prison Turned Into a Luxurious Hotel

Stylish balconies made of cabling iron once used to be a sight platform for security guards who kept an eye on prisoners. If you look closely, you shall see preserved traces of window bars.

Opened in September, the “Liberty” hotel did not get rid of what it had been before. 5 years of reconstruction that cost 150 million dollars has turned an old prison in Charles Street into a luxurious hotel. Its guests may pay from 319$ for a modest room to 5500$ for a president apartment per night.

Architects tried to preserve peculiarities of the 156-year old stone building and its history. An old passageway through which guards used to lead prisoners to their wards turned into the entrance of a new Italian restaurant “Scampo”. In another restaurant “Clink” former barred wards became part of the interior, and customers are served by waitresses in shirts with prison numbers.

18 out of 298 hotel rooms are arranged in real wards. They have old brick walls. The rest of the rooms are situated in a new 16-storey tower.

Instead of thieves and swindlers this place is visited by Mick Jagger, Annette Bening, Meg Ryan and Eva Mendes.

A miserable sinister place where inveterate criminals used to be imprisoned turned into a beautiful place where people have fun and enjoy their life and freedom.
