Europeans prefer spending holidays at home |
The oil and food prices are at their historical peaks in all the world. The prices for the products and services grow up after the prices for the raw materials - the costs of travel, leisure, hotels and cafe are also climbing up. With all this the Europeans are not really motivated to spend funds for an expensive holiday.
As the result, a significant part of the Europeans will remain at home this summer.
According to the recent polls, 42% of the Frenchmen plan to stay at home this season - this is 3 percent more than the year before and 10 percent more than in 2005. Concerning the local touristic industry - the traffic in the hotels still remains stable and high, but the amount of the cafe and restaurant visitors is decreased by 20-30% in comparison with the analogical period of the previous year.
The total prices increase in Great Britain is also an important factor - 58% percent of the Britons said that they had to change their vacation plans because of the economical reasons. 19% of the respondents have decided to cancel the holiday at all, and 34% said that they had to find a cheaper alternative inside of the country.
The same tendency is noticed in the Netherlands too. Though an interesting phenomenon has been noticed there - the increase of the amount of people that go to USA. This is explained quite simple - if the flight tickets became more expensive, then it makes sense to travel to USA and not to the other European countries, where the strength of Euro against the dollar will offer great saving opportunities. |
