Long time ago, in distant 42nd year of 16th century, the first European - Huan Rodriguez Cabrillo - has stepped onto the ground which he has proclaimed to be San Miguel. The Spanish mission has appeared here 200 years later. During the mapping of the Californian coast, Sebastian Viscaino has renamed the district into San Diego de Alcala.

The city overcame many peripetias - this city by the ocean where the sun shines almost all the time, and even in winter the temperature very rare falls below 20 degrees. So after the district came to the possesion Mexicans, a pueblo has appeared near the fortress; pueblo means “village”. And after the victory of Americans the settlement extended up to Oldtown.

One of prescient dealers of that time named Horton had bought a number of plats to the south from the Oldtown and gradually began erection of the Newtown. Later on he decided to build something like an embarcadero which was already a profitable business because promising characteristic for ports of that time institutions appeared immediately: about 120 public houses and 71 gambling house. Blossoming after the railway building and profiteering on the real estate, rises and falls of the city, the bases which have increased the value of the Navy on Coronado after the Second World War, - all this moulded the city as if the inept young sculptor developed directly during the creation of his piece, studying directly during the erection of the creation which in the future becomes a real masterpiece of the genre.

And now the masterpiece is created, and numerous rollers, bicyclists, runners whose trained bodies are hardly covered with clothes, rush along the coast. The tourists dash about the city streets, visit souvenir stands, small restaurants and small cafes. Thousands of tourists mix up with local population and create a raging life at the Californian coast, enjoying all this vanity of San Diego, being the second largest city of California.

Eccentric waves, rearing, bear surfers to the beaches thousands of people slacken under the sunlight, where the sun and the ocean help to enjoy life and taste the earthly paradise, escaping from terrestrial cares.

In the evening, wandering among the restored Victorian houses at light of the stylized gas lanterns, you fall in an atmosphere where the boundary of previous last and last centuries is clearly felt. Formerly ill-famed bars, restaurants, discos, antique shops now create the mixed cocktail of cultures, entertainments and a delicatessen.

Museums, theatres among which the prototype of the London Shakespearian theatre of XV century “the Old Globe”, tremendous zoo and an opportunity to see real elephants in the park of Balboa – all this tempts to get lost in the charm of the city, to feel acutely its breath and to feel happiness under the beams of the bright sun.

Once small pueblo has grown and became the paradise for sailing and bathing. White masts of yachts in bays, small stunning islands and clear water - is there anything more perfect than the saltish taste on the skin, the caressing sun and palm, cactus and rose plants, appearing before the view? Well, there is! This magnificent view on the other side of the gulf where from the steep rocks a unique scenery of the city and bays is born, the impression from which is strengthened by the grey whales migrating past the spit from Arctic regions along the coast of California, approximately from December till March.
They say the sea and the sun help one to feel the joy of life. San Diego can be named a small paradise on Earth on the coast of the Pacific Ocean.
