GDR-styled hotels are popular among tourists |
It is possible to stop at a hotel of the GDR-epoch and to plunge into the atmosphere of that time in Germany. It is interesting, that the new trend has found many admirers in hotel business of the country. It is not a secret, that going for a trip, tourists search for new impressions, and many of them are already bored with staying at smart hotels with refined design. Therefore owners of small hotels and pensions change style of their establishments so that visitors could be transported in the GDR days. Rooms in these hotels are furnished with dark grey sofas and wall units, decorated with portraits of heads of the state of that epoch. Visitors can make themselves comfortable in rigid armchairs in front of the Soviet TV, and they will find grey soap in bath-room instead of habitual bottles with foam.
The most popular hotel of such type is Ostel communist-style hotel in Berlin; it is as near as to stand in a queue to this hotel. Prices for accommodation are quite democratic here: 35 euros per person in four-room GDR-apartments for five people, from 38 euros - in a standard single room. Staying in a "pioneer camp"-styled room (a simple room with six beds) will cost you nine euros or more. Breakfasts cost 3,5 euros.
The tourist organization of Germany has carried out researches which have shown, that the number of tourists, who have visited Berlin in the first half of 2007 is 11,4 % more than during the same period of 2006. According to the opinion of representatives of this organization, it is a merit of these original Berlin hotels. It is necessary to note, that 40 % of the tourists who stay at them, are people younger than 35 years.
