Another nine countries have joined the Schengen Zone |
On the 21st of December, at 00:00 Central-European time another 9 countries joined the Schengen Zone. Frontier control of the land borders and maritime boundaries of Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Malta and Poland was abolished. Beginning from the 30th of March of the next year, the air frontiers between these countries will be opened. Borders expansion is a natural stage of consolidation of the EU countries.
Schengen represents one of the major supports of the whole project of the uniting Europe – free movement of people. Inclusion in Schengen of many of the countries, that joined the European Union during the large expansion in 2004, must be considered to be a very important event by the European Union as well as by the whole world. With relation to the European integration it is a big step towards the realization of those initial problems that were posed by the general market in 50-60s.
Experts are sure that Schengen expansion will have a beneficial affect on tourism. |
