Traveling Throughout Almost the Whole Europe with One Visa is Possible |
At night from 20 to 21 December border barriers disappeared at the inside borders of the European Union between the Old and the New Europe. Nine countries – Czech Republic, Slovenia, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Malta became members of the Schengen Area where borders exist only on geographical maps.
The essence of the Schengen Agreement is that if you have a visa of one of the member-countries, you may easily travel throughout other Schengen countries. For example, you have bought a tour in France and received a single visa (these visas are usually put in tourists’ passports). Having this visa you may easily go from Paris to Amsterdam by train and nobody shall ask for your documents. Now, due to extension of Schengen, you shall be able to travel throughout almost the whole Europe! From Poland to Czech Republic, from Czech Republic to Hungary, from Hungary to Austria…
Due to the EU agreement on facilitation of the visa regime, prices on visas shall be rather available – 35 Euros.
The Schengen Agreement is named after a village in Luxembourg, where France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg concluded the first agreement on cancellation of document checking procedures at frontiers in 1985. This location was chosen because it is situated at the intersection of borders of Luxembourg, France and Germany. The Agreement was signed on a vessel in the middle of the Mosel River that flows along the village. The population of Schengen makes up 400 people. There are no hotels; however, there are 36 vine-growing farms, a castle where Victor Hugo had once stayed and a lot of filling stations. |
