The Christ opened his arms like that he is embracing the city and everyone living in it. It seems that he soars above the city, protecting it and giving blessing.
Rio de Janeiro is the city, the exciting beauty and charm of which cannot leave any person, who has visited this place at least once, indifferent...
Carnival is certainly the first thing that comes to mind in association with the city name. It is a volcano of fearing hearts and an intoxicating passion lava, passion to life. The carnival can be really considered the main Brazilian holiday. It opens usually on last Saturday before the Great post and continues till the late evening of Tuesday. The urban life of shops and businesses stands still for some days, but inhabitants and visitors of the city indulge the bright, vivid, loud holiday of fun. The preparations start long before the beginning of the holiday and take a lot of time. Brazilians compose music and organize samba clubs where different performances and competitions are held. During the carnival days dancing groups from samba clubs, dressed in colourful completely amazing costumes sewed with such imagination, that the world couturier could envy, take part in street processions through the city with dances and orchestras. Theatrical scenes about everyday events of modern life, which gather a lot of spectators, are performed quite often. Carnival performances for absolutely small children are held in the morning, during the lunchtime - for a bit elder ones, and for adults in the evening, when celebrations continue all the night long, till the morning, and renew in the evening of the next day.
Dances, beach, alcohol, sports and certainly the sun - all these components compose the unique vivifying doping cocktail for six millions inhabitants, and this universal fever picks everyone into the whirlwind of events, light, bright paints and carries far away from grey week-days, away from cares into the colourful fairy tale of fun, just for some days in a year...
The other symbol or the card of the city is the 40 meters high statue of the Christ extending its hands from the highest top of Rio - the Corcovado rock. This top affords the tremendous view of the city: whimsical bends of the coast and coral lagoons of the Atlantic Ocean.
Large beaches became not only the place for "wallowing" under the sun near the ocean, but also the centres of seething life. Along the beaches of Copacabana, Leblon and Ipanema prosperous middle class high houses have tailed, and above, at the mountains' slopes, as a contrast and reminder, poor quarters are settled down.
Only the Nature does not distinguish rich and poor, generously presenting everyone with the good fortune; everybody is equal and uniform for her. The amazing bends of beaches she had generously presented to Rio de Janeiro are the paradise for everybody, not just for beautiful, rich and famous.
Every half of an hour cable car goes to another symbol of the city - Races de Asucar ("the Sugar head") hill 400 meters high. Looking from the hill at all this exciting beauty, one may involuntarily sink into a reverie, - why is it called Rio de Janeiro? It's such a sonorous name immediately drawing in consciousness something extraordinary beautiful and bright. In fact Rio de Janeiro is translated as "the January River". And it appears that its path breakers have decided the bay being a river and for this reason gave the city such a name, which catches the hearing with the murmuring beauty up to nowadays.
One more property of the city is the Botanical garden in Tijuka National Park. Its beauty amazes so much, that it is found one of the finest tropical botanical gardens and tree nurseries in the world. It is like an oasis in the middle of the rash city life, like a small island of calmness and virgin ideal beauty.
It is necessary to note, that the best time to travel is from June till September when the climate is softer and less rainy, but from December till March the real tropical heat begins.
Rio de Janeiro is known for its thirst of life and energy, and may be the keeper of the city invisibly helps, tenderly accepting under protection, in its embraces, everyone who has ever put his leg onto this paradise ground.
