Countries Where Tourists Can Easily Get Infected |
The National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases has published a report on how often citizens of temperate climate countries get infected with tropical diseases, mainly caused by various parasites.
It turned out that as of the period from 1997 to 2004, the majority of people who had become infected with similar diseases were immigrants from tropical countries. However, 9% of cases of infection are tourists who had visited the exotic south, 6% - businessmen, 6% - scientists and 16% - missioners and volunteers who had worked in these places.
In this context, the most dangerous countries are Cameroon, Nigeria and Sierra Leone in Africa, Guiana in the South America, India and Sri Lanka in Asia, as well as Haiti in the Caribbean Basin. Relatively few infections have been registered in Oceania and the Central America.
