In Peru one of the highest falls in the world is opened |
A waterfall that is the third highest one in the world was found in Peru. According to the corrected data of the Peruvian national geographic institute (ING), the height of the newly opened waterfall Yumbilla situated in the Amazonian Cuispes district makes 895,4 meters. The waterfall was already known for a long time, but only to the inhabitants of a local village, that did not pay a lot of attention to it.
The scientists got interested in the waterfall only in June this year. The first measurements have resulted the height of 870 meters. Before the "discovery" of Yumbilla, the third place was occupied by the Gocta waterfall. It is also situated in Peru in the Chachapoyas province and according to the ING falls down from the height of 771 meters. Though this figure is disputed by many of the scientists.
Besides the revision of the Yumbilla height, the scientists have made also another correction: earlier the waterfall was considered to consist of three streams. Now they have counted four of them. The state ministry of tourism plans to organize two-day tours to the Yumbilla, Gocta and Chinata (540 meters) |
