Dalmatia - the southern heaven of Croatia, weaved from islands, form turquoise sea and from rocks. |
If you want to run away from the vanity, then there is no better place than Dalmatia, where from olden times kings were resting from their court affairs. Just imagine... looking through the window of a fortress-house you see the turquoise water of the sea, a necklace of islands, that Croatia is rich in, the palms, the pines... aren't these things the ones we miss in everyday life, the things we wish for when coming home tired from job?! If I hit the nail on the head, then you'll be interested in taking a trip trough this country with me.
Dalmatia covers the central and the south-west part of the Croatian seaside of Adriatic Sea, from the Kvarner channel in the north till the Kotor cove (on the border with Montenegro) in the south-west. Dalmatia territory is divided in two: the North Dalmatia (with the centre in Zadar), and the Middle and South Dalmatia (the region of Dubrovnik city).
Make yourself comfortable and meet the first place of our visit - it's Omash.
Why this very choice? This is a typical Croatian town with narrow streets, roofs covered with terracotta, neat houses, medieval fortress and a big number of nice restaurants. The beach is wonderful as everywhere else in Croatia! There is a wonderful sea, if taking the aqualung one can see the unsurpassed beauty of the underwater world. The rafting on the local river, where one can take part in water adventures, and get a rowing lesson at the same time and get wet clothes and make a photo session trying to take pictures of all the fun that is going on around is the concluding motivation of the choice of this place. Isn't this town worth visiting?! Of course it is! Especially that the Croatian people are very talkative and friendly, they can even start singing, and you’ll sit down and think what Venice is better in?
By the way, it is really so. Once precisely the Croatian city of Dubrovnik was famous not just for it's developed fleet, but even turned into a real laying of masterpieces, due to the big number of built palaces and churches.
You're right when supposing that the next stop is going to be the "king of Adriatic’s"- the Dubrovnik city.
This town is impregnate with a thirteen centuries long history. Let’s take a walk in the city. Usually one begins its walk along the fortress walls that are from 4 to 6 metres wide and 25 metres high. The length of the wall is about 2 km. This whole construction, with powerful walls from outside and graceful furniture structures from the inside, being placed against the turquoise sea creates the image of a separate, isolated dummy of a city from old times. Two entries take us to the central street of Dubrovnik - the Plaza street, where the palaces, the numerous cafés, the monasteries, the cathedral, the aquarium with different Mediterranean fowl and also the Chancellor Palace that is an architectural masterpiece, executed in the Renaissance style, raise.
The most pleasant thing is that one can sit down and drink the wonderful coffee - kava - right on the serf wall, or get down and bathe in the sea, under the city's walls.
Although the picture of the suburb streets looks pretty different in comparison with the centre: there are shouting women, fluttering linen, looking like colourful flags, and the smell of food.
It is easy to get from Dubrovnik to a lot of other islands by the means of plying ship.
The Plitwitzki lakes is one place more that amazes and makes one fall in love with this country. To say that it is beautiful would be the same as not saying anything at all. I would call it one wonder more of this world, because of its unbelievable number of waterfalls, rocks, lakes, of coniferous woods that create an harmonious combination of really virgin nature of a rare beauty and the state of "all in one", in "one place" in this case.
The lakes have different colours here; varying from a tender blue to a bright green and the water world surprise you with its variety and with the size of its habitants.
Everything is well-groomed; there are paths everywhere, wooden flooring, and a ship that ferries across the lake. And some say that there are wild bears in the national park.
Of course there are a lot of places in Dalmatia that could be recommended , among those is the Locrum island with e a lot of peacocks, sitting on the pines(!!!), there is also the Split city that is the biggest city on the Adriatic seaside and so on . By and large it is really a wonderful country, with places that should be visited by all means.
And for the last, I would like to give some pieces of advice considering what is there to try during your staying in Croatia:
- Seafood, that's for sure - oysters, lobsters, mussels, calamaries and so on;
- Buzaru - huge shrimp stewed in tomato sauce with onion and spices;
- Ice-cream - that is not just tasty, but witch way of preparing is a real show where the sellers throw ice-cream balls, making different figures out of them and the wafers - well, it is a nice kind of entertainment for both kids and parents.
Make sure to bring as a souvenir a bottle of vodka with fruits inside, some olive oil and painted ceramics.
And one more thing you can leave home everything you like but do not leave you photo camera because you will like for sure to reach it somewhere in your bag and to immortalize this very wonder of the Adriatic sea!
